Running a bed and breakfast is far different than running a hotel and in order to compete with the big hotel chains you need to set yourself apart with some more personalized service. This is why guests keep coming back to celebrate anniversaries and other special occasions. Let’s explore what makes a successful B & B and why our guests keep coming up to us whenever they are in town.
Let’s Start with the Basics
Our guests are looking for a comfortable bed in a clean room, a delicious breakfast featuring the local flavors and friendly staff to make them feel at home. Adding in a bit of luxury doesn’t hurt either, quality linens on the bed comfortable décor and soft and fluffy towels in the bathrooms. We want our guest to feel that this is their home away from home. There are flowers in the rooms, local art on the walls and we put in the personal touch wherever we can. This means we include some extras, we leave chocolates in the rooms (guests love it), good shampoos and conditioner along with shower gels and bubble baths for our guests. Here is a closer look at running a B & B.
Understand Your Guests
While we do our best to make guests feel welcome we also understand that they are here to experience some of the things to do nearby. Many come for the nearby water activities so we have made arrangements with local scuba diving instructors and snorkeling companies, they offer a discount to our guests in return for the referral.
Friendliness Goes a Long Way
Guests come to the B & B because of the marketing efforts put into it and because it offers up what they are looking for. They keep coming back because of they way that have been treated while they are here. You don’t need to be pushy or get too personal but people appreciate when you remember their names and a few details about them. If they are there for an anniversary then don’t hesitate to wish them a Happy Anniversary or put a little something in the room for them. It’s these small details that you have to pay attention to that will keep bringing guests back.
No matter how well we seem to be doing there is always room for improvement. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve the experience of our guests and we always ask for feedback from our guests to make sure that we’re meeting the standards we set for ourselves.
